ACCOUNTABILITY COACHING

What is accountability coaching?

Accountability coaching is structured tracking and regular review against commitments you set, with a coach who adjusts the plan when the results disagree with it. It is not someone chasing you. The mechanism is honest measurement plus a rule for what happens after a miss.

Part of our performance coaching practice

Measure recovery, not completion

Most accountability arrangements track one thing: did you do it. That number feels like the point and it is the less useful of the two available measurements.

The reason is that misses are not the failure mode. Everybody misses. Illness, travel, a week that goes wrong, and a session or a task does not happen. That is normal and it costs almost nothing on its own.

What costs everything is the fortnight afterwards. One miss becomes two, the streak is gone so the record no longer feels worth protecting, and by the time anyone notices, six weeks have passed. Nearly every abandoned goal follows that shape, and a completion-only tracker registers it far too late to help.

So we measure the return. How long the gap ran, and what happened after it. That number tells you whether something is actually working long before the outcome does, and it is directly improvable through a rule agreed in advance.

The second reason completion tracking underperforms: it treats the plan as fixed and you as the variable. When someone misses three weeks running, the useful question is not why they failed. It is what the plan got wrong about their week.

What actually makes accountability work

Most people set commitments at the level they think they should manage. That produces regular failure and the erosion that follows. We set them where you will genuinely land, then raise them.

Any system requiring real effort becomes another abandoned task. Yours needs to survive a bad week, which means it has to be nearly free.

What happens the day after a miss, decided while you are thinking clearly rather than while you are demoralised.

Not a check-in where you explain yourself. A look at what happened, where it broke, and what changes.

When results argue with the plan, the plan changes. Repeating the same intention more firmly is not a strategy.

Who this is for

You do things for other people and not for yourself.

Deadlines with someone else attached always get met. Yours slide indefinitely.

You have tried apps and streaks.

They worked until the streak broke, and then they made it worse, because the number was the thing motivating you and it was gone.

You start strong and fade at week three.

Consistently around the same point, which suggests a structural cause rather than a motivation one.

You need someone to notice.

Not to pressure you. Just for the work to be visible to somebody other than you.

You are working on something with no external deadline.

A business, a book, a fitness goal, a search. Nothing forces the next step, so nothing happens.

You are between coaching engagements.

The plan exists and holding to it is the gap.

How the sessions work

We set the commitments together.

Specific, small enough to hit, and stated in a way that is unambiguous at the end of the week.

We set up tracking.

Simple enough that you will do it, in whatever form you will actually use.

We agree the restart rule.

Before you need it.

We review on a fixed rhythm.

What was planned, what happened, where the gap was, what changes. No explanations required and no disappointment performed.

We adjust.

Every review either confirms the plan or changes it. Nothing gets carried forward unchanged twice while failing.

How the Method applies

Clarity.

What has actually been happening, not what was intended. The starting picture is usually more mixed than people expect in both directions.

Ownership.

Time you cannot control versus commitments you keep accepting. The second category is nearly always bigger than assumed.

Direction.

Fewer commitments, defined precisely, with the cost of each named.

Momentum.

Effectively the whole page. Reps, tracking, adjustment, and a rule for the day after.

What we do not do

We do not nag.

If pressure worked you would have solved this with a friend. It also produces compliance rather than habit, and compliance stops when the pressure does.

We do not manufacture guilt.

A missed week gets examined, not judged. Guilt is one of the more reliable ways to make somebody avoid the tracker entirely.

We do not hold the plan sacred.

If it keeps breaking, it was wrong.

We are not a substitute for wanting it.

If the goal turns out not to matter to you, no accountability system fixes that, and it is worth finding out early. Sometimes that is the most useful outcome of the first session.

Ways to work together

Clarity Session

$350

One session, an honest read of where follow-through breaks, and a roadmap. Credited toward any program within 30 days.

30-Day Intensive

$1,300

Four weekly sessions. A tight cadence, which suits this work well.

90-Day Program

$2,500

Recommended. Follow-through is proven across disrupted months, not good ones. The two progress calls in months two and three exist for exactly this.

Senior Retainer

$1,000per month.

Ongoing structure with a senior coach for people who want the review rhythm to continue indefinitely

Questions

A partner tracks whether you did it. We look at why the plan broke and change it. That difference is most of the value, and it is why peer arrangements usually fade within a couple of months.

Then the plan is wrong and we change it. Repeated missing is information about the plan, not a verdict on you.

The calls are the visible part. The work is in how commitments are set and how the plan adapts

Depends on the package. The 90-Day Program includes two short progress calls alongside the full sessions, which is designed for exactly this kind of work.

Yes, and some clients do. Tell us at intake so we are supporting the plan rather than competing with it.

Then executive functioning work is probably the better fit, since that addresses task initiation directly.
