INTERVIEW PREPARATION COACHING

What is interview preparation coaching?

Interview coaching is structured practice and feedback on how you present your experience under pressure. We work on answering fully rather than briefly, handling the questions you dread, and closing the gap between what you have actually done and what an interviewer hears. Sessions are online and run one to one.

Part of our career coaching practice

The problem is almost never your qualifications

If you are getting interviews, your record works. Something on paper is doing its job or you would not be in the room.

What goes wrong in the room is usually description. People give the two-sentence version of a five-year responsibility. They answer the question that was asked and stop, when the interviewer was waiting for the example. They mention the project and skip the part where it was difficult and they handled it.

None of that is nerves exactly. It is a habit, and for a lot of people it is a habit built on discomfort with talking about themselves at length. That discomfort is not a flaw. It is just costing you roles.

The reframe we use: the task is not to promote yourself. It is to describe accurately what happened. Modesty stops being a virtue at the point it becomes an inaccuracy, and a record described in half its actual size is not humble, it is wrong.

Who this is for

You keep reaching the final round.

Which means the record is fine and something in how you are landing is not. This is the most common reason people come to us for interview work.

You find talking about your own work uncomfortable.

Often people with long hands-on careers, technical backgrounds, or trades. Decades of genuine responsibility, described in bullet points.

You freeze on specific questions.

Usually the open ones. Tell me about yourself. Why did you leave. What is your weakness. The dread is rarely about the question and usually about a story underneath it.

You have not interviewed in years.

The format has changed, and so has the amount of structure expected in an answer.

You are moving into something adjacent.

Where the experience transfers but the language does not, and you have to build the bridge in real time while being assessed.

How the sessions work

We start with what is actually happening.

Not a general lesson on interviewing. We look at the questions you have been asked recently, what you said, and where the answer stopped short. If you have a live process running, that is the material.

Then we build the accounts.

Six to eight real situations from your career, each one worked into something you can tell properly: what the situation was, what you did, what it cost, what happened. Not memorised scripts. Structure you can recall under pressure without sounding rehearsed.

Then we practise, and it is uncomfortable.

Live questions, real time, followed by direct feedback on where you cut yourself short or filled a silence with a qualifier. Most people discover they are trimming without noticing.

Then we look at the ones you dread.

Usually there are two or three. We work out what they are actually asking, and build an answer you are willing to give.

How the Method applies

Clarity.

What is verifiably true about your record, versus what you have assumed about how it reads to someone else. Most people are carrying an inaccurate model of their own experience.

Ownership.

Who else applied, what the panel is looking for, and how the decision gets made are not yours. Whether the account you give matches the work you did is entirely yours.

Direction.

Which roles are worth this effort, and what an honest, complete version of your record actually sounds like.

Momentum.

Reps, tracked. What you were asked, where you shortened the answer, what you adjusted. The pattern becomes visible fast and once visible it is correctable.

What we do not do

We do not write your answers. An answer someone else wrote does not survive follow-up questions, because you cannot defend language you did not choose, and interviewers can hear the difference immediately.

We do not coach you to perform confidence you do not have. It reads as false and it is exhausting to maintain. The goal is that you can describe your work accurately without it feeling like a claim.

We do not promise you the job. Hiring decisions involve budget, internal candidates, timing, and preferences nobody outside the room can see.

Questions

Yes, as part of the work rather than the whole of it. Practice without feedback on the underlying habit just rehearses the same short answers.

Sometimes. A Clarity Session can do useful work on a specific upcoming interview. Changing a long-standing habit takes longer than a week, and we will say so rather than overpromise.

Nerves are normal and mostly not the issue. What matters is what nerves make you do, which is usually shortening answers and filling silences. Those are addressable.

We work on them with you as part of career coaching, but the interview work is about how you speak, and the two problems often have the same root.

No. Internal promotions, panel interviews, and partnership or board interviews all involve the same skill.

That is worth examining honestly, because sometimes it is code for something else. Phase One usually surfaces which it is.
